Geocaching is a relatively new hobbie for me. Since it requires the use of a GPS, I was unable to participate in this world-wide treasure hunt until I got my very own GPS unit. However, Luke and I decided to buy one for each other for Christmas, and I have been 'winter caching' ever since :)  Geocaching provides me with a fun excuse to get outside and explore new areas. Finding a cache is almost a secondary reward to discovering the new parks, views and trails that are likely to be uncovered on the journey to the cache destination.  I will be placing my own geocache soon, I just haven't found the perfect spot yet....  Here are a few 'geocaching' pictures we have taken during this winter season.

Winter Hiking

Winter in Canada can drag on and on......  This has been one of the longest, coldest and snowiest winters I can remember.  For people like me, who like to be outdoors but don't like to be cold, I've had to learn to deal with uncomfortable temperatures because I am not willing to hibernate indoors for 6 months of the year. Luckily for me, living in BC provides me with lots of oppurtunities and excuses for braving the winter outside. This weekend, Luke and I decided to go for a hike even though the temperature was below zero. We were not willing to be trapped indoors a second longer!  Amazingly, we were able to enjoy an incredible hike and view, just by walking out of our front door! We finally decided to stick close to home and explore the very mountain that we live on :)  In total, the hike to the peak and back took us about 3 hours. It was a gorgeous and peaceful sunny day and the pictures we took definately do our adventure justice. Hope you enjoy!!

Circus and his Love for Confined Spaces

I love cats, lets just get that out in the open...And, of course, I think my cat is the cutest one on the planet! The size of my 'Circus' photo collection is both impressive and slighly embarrasing, but I can't help that my cat is forever finding new ways to make me go "Awwhhhh." A have chosen a common theme for my selection of pictures below, all of the pics show circus in his favourite confined spaces, I think you will find the variety ammusing.

My First (photo worthy) Bento

One of my new interests is the art of bento making.  And don't let my newbie bento fool you, bento's can be works of art! is an amazing site that served as the catalyst for my new obsession.  I have come to realize that bento making is ridiculously fun and rewarding, and  it helped me learn to enjoy cooking, which is something I never though I could do!

A bento box is basically a lunch box, and that is one of the only requirements for 'bento'.  There are lots of different types of bento boxes and foods you can put in them, its all about being creative.  My goal when making a delicious bento box, is to include a variety of foods that are colourful, healthy, easy to make and easy to store.  Recently, as my confidence has grown, I've been including a lot more ethnic and asian foods in my bentos.  I'm sure I will be posting many more bento pictures in the future :)

My First Post

I've recently become very intrigued by many different blogs that exist on the internet and have decided to start my own. One of the main reasons I have embarked on this new project is to keep in touch with my friends and family.  Since most of my (very large) extended family lives far away, this blog will provide them with an easy way to check up me. Having a chonological account of all of my ideas and activities will be an interesting side benefit.  :)

Additional Note: added July 7th, 2011

Hello there,

My name is Nicole and I’d like to welcome you to my blog.  This little personalized space I’ve carved out for myself within the world wide web has surprisingly (or not so surprisingly) become an important part of my everyday life.    My original intent when starting this blog was to create a place that my friends and family (most of whom live thousands of kilometres away) could visit in order to check out what I’ve been up to.

Now, after 4 months of blogging, I must admit that my reasons have changed.  I now know that updating my blog is a reward in itself, I post because I enjoy it. Of course, it’s wonderful if others are enjoying my updates, but I would do this even if I knew no one was watching.  I’ve also realized that my audience is much, much wider than I was expecting.  In fact, most of the people who view my blog are ‘strangers’ – people who I do not know personally who have stumbled onto my blog because we share similar interests.  There are so many amazing and inspiring people in the blogging community, I am so glad I have become a part of it.  I look forward to sharing my life experiences with any and all who visit me here.

I have many interests that get featured in my posts, and for now, everything is all rolled into my ‘Fawn in BC’ blog.  You will see many posts about bento, mountain biking, boating, crafting/art, my cat, pictures of my surroundings, geocaching and anything else that makes me happy.  I hope I can inspire others to enjoy these things as much as I do. J

Thank you for visiting and please feel free to leave comments or links to your own blogs!
